Job Summary

In this role, you will serve as the Lead Cloud Computing Analyst for the team that maintains virtualization services and enterprise storage at the University of Texas at Arlington. A key element of this group’s work is to provide infrastructure resources to our customers for service deployments, backup and business continuity. Technologies used include commercial products like the VMware vCloud Suite, Veeam, Dell Enterprise Manager, and various tools to automation frameworks for system infrastructure like VMware vRealize Automation and VMware Orchestrator. You will coordinate and carry-out day-to-day operation activities and processes, delivering services at agreed-upon levels. You will also work to plan and assess service changes and upgrades, minimizing the impact on business activities. The Cloud Services & Storage team participates in numerous IT projects. You will perform a variety of technical and non-technical tasks including, but not limited to, architectural planning, implementation, configuration, system development, testing, and maintaining documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Deploys the release of new technologies as well as support, design, install, configuration, and management of virtualization infrastructure and related services.
  2. Leads problem-solving efforts, often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
  3. Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance and security.
  4. Maintains a strong understanding of emerging practices in Cloud Computing, including Storage and Networking.
  5. Develops and maintains procedures and documentation for operation and restoration of systems and applications.
  6. Provides leadership in planning and implementation of projects for server operations and enterprise architecture.
  7. Monitors the proper operation of the data center and computer systems including hardware, software and equipment.
  8. Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information technology, or similar field plus five (5) years of recent full-time experience managing enterprise-class virtualization environments or the equivalent experience. Experience with data center virtualization using VMware vCloud Suite (vRealize Operations, vRealize Automation, NSX, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience installing, configuring, and managing cloud management and orchestration frameworks (vSphere, vRealize Operations, vRealize Automation, Orchestrator, NSX, AWS, Azure). Experience managing private, public, and hybrid-cloud topologies including storage, network, and compute resource interactions. Experience managing software-defined networks (VMware NSX). Experience with disaster-recovery and business continuity solutions in a virtualized infrastructure. Experience maintaining vSAN, SAN and cloud storage environments.
