Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Senior Cultural Resource Professional with 10+ years of Section 106 experience to manage all phases of Cultural Resource projects throughout Texas and the Southwestern United States. Archaeologists and Architectural Historians will be considered for this position. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team including archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, environmental scientists, engineers and planners. The qualified candidate must be able to write at a professional level and present ideas in a well-thought out and comprehensive manner. The preferred candidate will enjoy a variety of working conditions ranging from field efforts to office analysis.

Responsibilities will include managing a diverse staff of cultural resource professionals including archaeologists, architectural historians and historians. The preferred candidate will have significant experience working with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and will be comfortable discussing all aspects of Section 106 including archaeology and architectural history. Work will include client coordination; assisting with proposals; assisting with marketing; supervising staff; project research and fieldwork; and report writing. Travel will be required. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Working with technical field, lab and office staff, managers and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet JMT quality standards

  • Managing/assisting with client and proposal efforts

  • Completing/assisting with project work, as necessary

  • Striving continually to see that Cultural Resource projects are completed on time and within allocated budget

    Required Skills

  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards 36 CFR 61 as an Archaeologist, Architectural Historian or Historian

  • Excellent Microsoft Office, GIS, and GPS applications skills

Required Experience

  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited school in Archaeology, Historic Preservation, or related discipline with a focus in Texas

  • 10+ years of experience are required for this position

  • Experience working with federal regulations including Section 106 and NEPA

  • Experience with Texas Pre-history and History

  • Experience managing staff (including field crews)

  • Experience managing Section 106 compliance projects

  • Experience working with TxDOT

  • Experience working with clients and managing proposals

  • Experience managing staff, managing client relationships, preparing proposals, conducting background research, organizing and completing field work, and writing reports

  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 regulations

  • Experience working with federal agencies preferred

  • Experience working with Historic Preservation Offices, particularly the Texas Historical Commission is preferred
