BAE Systems EO/IR Engineer - Electro optical in Austin, Texas

As the Senior Engineer, support development of an optimal systems architecture based on derived requirements and customer concept of operations (CONOPS) for multiple military platforms, including Prime Mission Equipment and Integrated Test Equipment for air, ground and sea vehicles, and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) vision system products. Implement solutions using a variety of technologies, systems and development environments for embedded real-time software, FPGAs/ASICs, mobile devices, high performance computing, test equipment, rapid prototyping and systems analysis. Support lifecycle development processes for creating and implementing architectural models, from early product concept through detailed design, integration, test and sustainment phases. Participate heavily as a value-added contributor in hardware and software development tools, techniques and procedures (TTP) for projects including embedded, real-time development, high-performance computing, EO/IR, aiming systems, laser systems, mission computing, vehicle threat management and computer test stand development. Use strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of customers, distributed teams and demanding program constraints to achieve exceptional performance.

Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills And Education

  • Strong background in EO/IR camera or imaging system integration and test

  • Experience integrating hardware optical components in laboratory environment

  • Experience/ability/knowledge working with Focal Plane Arrays (FPA), microbolometers, EO/IR cameras, thermal imaging or night vision technologies

  • Experience with one or more of the following: GigE Vision, MIL-STD-1553, serial communications (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485), RS-170, Fibre Channel, TCP/IP and Ethernet data bus interfaces

  • Experience working /presenting proposals/designs to customers (internal and external)

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and document systems, software and hardware requirements

  • Allocating system requirements to subsystem requirements & creating supplier specifications for custom optical designs

  • Willingness to provide manufacturing support for optical imaging test equipment

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and a positive, can-do attitude
