PPD Desktop Services Technician in Austin, Texas
With some direction, the Desktop Services Technician provides direct technical support to computer system users; Answers complex and difficult questions to resolve computer problems for clients; Provides assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, VPN connectivity, electronic mail and operating systems. Provides desk side support and training for end users.
Sets up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software
Installs and performs minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications
Conducts computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support
Determines computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter system
Responds to and diagnoses problems through discussion with clients.
Designs and conducts hardware or software tests
Assists in inventory control and asset management
Education and Experience:
High / Secondary school diploma or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
Technical positions may require a certificate
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to at least 4 years).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, PC hardware and desktop application products
The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues on a desktop platform
Strong customer service communication skills
Must be able to multi task and pay close attention to detail
Work is performed in an office or clinical environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
Exposure to high pressure, intense concentration needed
Travel required on rare occasions
Long, varied hours required occasionally
Must pay constant attention to detail-visual, mental
Exposure to toxic materials on rare occasions
Frequently stationary for 4-6 hours per day.
Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
Occasional mobility required.
Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
May interact with others, relating and gathering sensitive information. Interaction includes diverse groups.
Works with guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions from management. May require periods of intense concentration.
Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
