Role Summary:

The Director – Software & Infrastructure is a key member of the leadership team of the New Business Creations Growth Equity team. This role will provide technical leadership for the fund’s portfolio companies, including responsibility for setting the software & infrastructure strategy and driving industry leading patterns in software architecture, design and development. This role will also focus heavily on technical product development for the portfolio companies.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide commercialization technical leadership to help foster the development and delivery of key technologies

  • Work with the portfolio companies to design, resource and establish industry leading software and infrastructure strategy

  • Foster platform development plan for portfolio companies, working with outside vendors, meeting with prospective customers in a variety of markets, influencing the direction of the product development efforts, and transitioning portfolio companies through the ideation and prototyping process to product commercialization

  • Develop innovative approaches to solve software & infrastructure problems and communicate results and recommendations to the team

  • Support the recruitment of software engineers and technical talent for portfolio companies

  • Identify, evaluate and translate technological capabilities into strategic decisions related to software development efforts

  • Manage and advise on lifecycle development of technologies that will support the business goal of maintaining a competitive advantage

  • Spearhead the growth of key elements of the technology roadmap

  • Work closely with engineering and Agile leaders to drive the organization development and ensure world-class engineering practices are utilized

  • Drive innovation, value and growth through program execution

  • Set the pace in what we expect to be an agile and lean start up environment

  • Assist other team members in the accomplishment to work assignments through technical leadership


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems (IS), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum 10 years hands-on experience in software and infrastructure development, with working knowledge of complex networking and at-scale storage solutions

  • Minimum 8 years hands-on experience of cloud infrastructure and application development

Eligibility Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job

  • Travel 30% of the time, as required

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Menlo Park, CA or Boston, MA

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Hands-on experience with at-scale data and application virtualization technologies

  • Experience leading software development teams using Agile methodologies

  • Experience with the complete software stack: Web front-ends with JavaScript or closely related frameworks, Web services and service composition frameworks, Server side component frameworks, Distributed cluster computing frameworks, and structured and unstructured persistent and in-memory data storage frameworks

  • End to end IIOT use cases implementation experience

  • Superior work ethic, communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills

  • Must be able and willing to step into technical leadership roles within portfolio companies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced degree in Information Systems (IS), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Engineering

  • Excels in team-oriented environment, interacting with Senior and Junior resources

  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment

  • Ability to energize, develop, and build rapport at all levels within an organization

  • Strong judgment and the ability to analyze options and their implications
