Job Description

Functions as the lead systems engineer of a large and complex information technology systems design projects and provides technical support for enterprise information technology systems; provides advanced technical support in designing, maintaining, installing and using enterprise information technology systems and provides technical guidance on a major information technology projects.

Position Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Five years of System administration experience. Microsoft Active Directory 2003 (or later) and Microsoft Exchange 2003 (or later) administration experience.

Position Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal skills. Ability to use computing equipment. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently with little supervision to meet project deadlines

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M Systems and HSC guidelines.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Enterprise systems administration experience with one or more of the following: Microsoft Active Directory 2008 R2, Microsoft Exchange 2010, MS SQL Server 2005(or later), Vmware Virtual Infrastructure, Linux environments, EqualLogic storage area networks.

Preferred Licenses, Certificates or Registration:

  • One or more of the following: Microsoft Certified Professional (or current equivalent), Vmware Certified Professional.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilitites:

  • Strong scripting (powerShell vBScript) and automation skills.


  • Assist in the design, development, management, and documentation of enterprise systems; Initiates the purchases of enterprise software and hardware.

  • Works with vendor field engineers to resolve hardware problems. Coordinates installation and maintenance of both critical and non-critical software and hardware; coordinates the documentation of all changes to systems software and the development of entries for a systems support database.

  • Assists in strategic planning for computing and communication; Assists with the development of information technology training materials for enterprise and supporting applications.

  • Develops specifications based on input from enterprise stakeholders; consults wit and assists computing personnel, vendors and manufacturers' reps in resolving complex procedural, operational and technical problems.

  • May mentor, train, and develop other employees within OIT. May also manage other OIT technical staff.

  • May receive calls on personal pone after normal business hours to respond to outages or to provide customer support.

  • Other duties as assigned.
