Department Overview

The BD Implementation Department manages, plans and coordinates the implementation of BD Pyxis Dispensing products. Teams are assigned to customer projects and accounts based on regional/national organizational structures. These project teams include staff from BD and the customer, working in synergy with each other toward the common goal of an on-time, successful system implementation. Activities include implementation project management, product installation, workflow, system design and configuration tasks, integration engineering functions and general customer relationship and partnering activities. In addition to customer-facing responsibilities, this department is also responsible for many backend business functions including revenue forecasting and recognition, equipment logistics (including ordering, customer confirmation and return authorizations), implementation methodologies, solution design best practices and quality system requirements.


The Consultant, Professional Services – Technical is experienced with the implementation of BD Pyxis products. This involves customer interaction and relationship development at the Pharmacy/Stakeholder level. In addition, the Technical Consultant guides the implementation process through demonstrated expertise of all technical processes of BD Pyxis products. Projects range in scope from small to large hospital level implementations requiring standardization across multiple BD product lines. The effective Technical Consultant must be able to clearly communicate, thoroughly document and demonstrate product implementation mastery. This also involves working with the customer to comprehend and verify product configurable options are applied based on customer requirements, reinforcing best practices and reviewing technical design decisions. The Technical Consultant effectively leads Analyst resources to ensure implementation standards and best practice processes are consistently applied in preparation of timely Go-Lives and customer satisfaction. The Technical Consultant must have the ability to establish collaborative working relationships with cross-functional project teams. Project teams will include multiple disciplines from within BD Pyxis Dispensing Systems and customer teams. The Technical Consultant is a mentor for both customers and internal team members.

Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities

  • Technical - Small to Medium Hospital level workflow design configuration/verification, server infrastructure and Health Check review and sign-off, implementation process improvement and oversight, education, etc.

  • Poject Management - Meetings, planning, communication, documentation

  • Performs other duties as assigned to potentially include Regional/National projects with focus on Medication Dispensing Technologies to include Continuous Improvement activities that drives improvement in the overall implementation process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Facilitation of conference calls and customer meetings for assigned BD Medication Systems Dispensing product implementations.

  • Establish rapport with customers that is conducive to a long term business relationships.

  • Provide team support and product information on BD Medication Systems Dispensing products as assigned by manager.

  • Mentors team members to ensure product and process competency and consistency.

  • Must be able to manage customer teams, gain consensus within teams and deliver concise and consistent communication.

  • Actively participates in the review of customer site assessments, project design and implementation of BD Medication Systems Dispensing products and technologies as needed.


  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital level pharmacy/clinical workflow processes, hospital, IT & pharmacy system integration, clinical device settings, active directory, BD remote access.

  • Knowledge to help support and troubleshoot technical issues including Microsoft Windows security settings and cyber security defense and audits.

  • Review pharmacy and clinical pre-implementation assessments and future state design.

  • Ability to interact and guide diverse cross-functional project teams.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of established BD Medication Systems Dispensing product implementation methodologies and tools or equivalent industry standards.

  • Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task and the ability to implement complex projects consistent with established company and customer objectives.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking, advanced problem solving, troubleshooting and system consultation as it relates to pharmacy workflow and best practice considerations and health system standardization.

  • Install and support BD Medication Systems Dispensing software.

  • Train and mentor team members on products, best practices and customer education.

  • Expected to act as a customer support resource when necessary.

  • Knowledgeable with BD Medication Systems Dispensing products.

  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve tools and processes.


  • Coordinate client resources and assign project tasks.

Security Requirement:

  • Must be US Citizen and possess a US Government security clearance or have the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance, prior to hire.

Education or Equivalent:

  • Associates degree preferred or equivalent education and work experience.

Industry Experience:

  • 5 or more years relevant experience required.

  • Travel 60% - 80%, (overnight travel-International and Domestic).

  • Position requires flexible working hours, including some nights and weekends. Ability to work independently from home office.

Experience or Equivalent:

  • Familiarity with HIS/PIS systems and pharmacy and nursing workflow.

  • Three or more years in healthcare environment with technical (systems) involvement and computerized system applications.

  • Dispensing software technology experience is required.

  • Must have a working knowledge of a variety of software applications, including BD Pyxis Dispensing products and exposure to solution design processes.

  • Experience with small - medium health systems required.


  • Pharmacy Technician, Informatacist, Information Technology, Networking, Software Development


  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. This position may involve pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting.

  • Travel may range from 60% - 80%, overnight travel. Position requires flexible working hours, including some nights and weekends. Ability to work independently from home office.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license and meet BD’s auto safety standards.

  • Upon hire must provide proof of and maintain current immunizations and obtain additional immunizations appropriate for the facility which enables access to customer sites in order to perform essential job functions. Proofs must include: Hepatitis B, Influenza (current year), MMR (mumps, measles, rubella), Varicella (chicken pox) Annual TB/PPD (skin test),Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis.
